Barter & Trade, Cabernet Sauvignon, Washington 2014
Winemaker Andrew Jones (The Fableist, Wonderwall, Two Travelers and the Axe) is the goods and he makes them too. We love just about everything he produces so when we got the scoop that Andrew was planning on producing a first release Cabernet from Washing state, we turned off iTunes, slammed off our laptop and stared at our phone until we got the call. Recently, we got the call. Barter & Trade is Andrew's first project outside of California. The wine is a blend of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Merlot and 5% Syrah from Washington’s Columbia Valley. It was aged in a mix of new and seasoned French oak. Columbia has a similar climate to the Napa and Sonoma Valleys so Cab, Merlot and Syrah grow very well up there. The one thing that stands out on this wine is the alcohol is dialed down a bit so it's a fantastic Cabernet to pair with a variety of dishes. 14.1% alc. Only 900 cases produced.
