Big Pour, Red Wine, Napa Valley 2012
This wine was made at Kelly Fleming Winery which is located at the end of Pickett Road in Calistoga. What’s unique about this area is who else lives on Pickett Road. Araujo (an iconic Cabernet brand that has scored in the high 90s for several years and who’s consulting winemaker is Francoise Peschon), Hundred Acre (vintner Jason Woodbridge paid $6 million in 2008 for the vineyard next to Araujo and his wines have received many 95+ ratings) and the Frediani Vineyard (home to the finest Carignane and Petit Sirah grapes in all of Napa Valley) are all neighbors of the Fleming Winery.
Big Pour is 85% Cabernet Sauvignon (all estate fruit) blended with 5% each of Syrah, Malbec and Petite Verdot from hand-picked vineyards in St. Helena, Coombsville and Carneros. The nose is overflowing with ripe cherry and cassis and flavors of milk chocolate, candied plum and more cherry soon follow. The finish is more of the same with a slight herbal quality that the Fleming Wines are known for. The fruit and acid are superbly balanced giving the wine superior depth but not being overwhelming. The name of the wine could not be more perfect. 14.6% alc. Only 875 cases made.
