Di Costanzo, Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley 2014
Massimo Di Constanzo was playing baseball at UC Davis when he thought it would be fun to take an intro to winemaking course. It’s safe to say we're very glad he hung up his spikes. After earning his degree in viticulture, Massimo went on to make wine in Italy, Argentina and South Africa. He finally settled in Napa Valley. Massimo caught his big break as assistant winemaker for Screaming Eagle before he was recruited by Ovid and then worked with Philippe Melka Consulting before striking it out on his own.
This wine is 100% estate Cabernet Sauvignon from the Farella Vineyard in Coombsville. Di Costanzo is the perfect example of purity and depth while walking a fine line between new world and old world Cabernet. The level of elegance this wine delivers after one sip is very clear. You’ll likely smell and taste notes of black cherry, blackberry and leather. A little hint of cocoa powder is loitering in the background. Napa Valley’s 2014 vintage was another very, very good year but total production was down. This wine will drink very well now with a decant time of 60-90 minutes and cellar well into 2030. 14.3% alc. Only 300 cases produced.
