Gros Ventre, Cerise Vineyard, Pinot Noir, Anderson Valley 2013
Meaning "big belly" in French, Sarah and Chris Pittenger started Gros Ventre Cellars right before their first child was born. Before that, Chris worked in restaurants and wine shops by night so he could be super outdoorsy guy during the day. Sarah was in the advertising game, flying back and forth between San Francisco and New York. A chance meeting in Jackson Hole, Wyoming started it all.
This wine comes from a tiny, single vineyard property (recently purchased by Dan Kosta and Michael Browne of Kosta Browne so that should tell you how good these grapes are) that only a handful of winemakers are lucky enough to source. This wine has intense color and flavors of cherry, pomegranate and strawberry with just a touch of rose petal and acacia on the nose. Pinot Noir, when done right, with the perfect fruit source and a winemaker who knows how delicate this varietal can be, is arguably the most compelling, beautiful and balanced wine in the world. 13.5% alc. Only 143 cases produced.
