Halcon, Esquisto, Red Wine, Yorkville Highlands 2014
Proprietor Paul Gordon is a firm believer in cool-climate wine producing AVAs and the pedigree of wine they produce. His estate, located in the Yorkville Highlands (Mendocino) and one of the highest elevation vineyards in California (2,500 ft), expresses similar traits of the Northern Rhone in France. Paul's winemaker, Scott Shapely, has created spectacular wines from this exceptional property.
Esquisto is a masterful blend of 63% Grenache, 32% Mourvedre and 5% Syrah. We loved this wine for its aromas and flavors of violets, black figs, licorice and blackberries. Whatever main dish you're whipping up in the next few weeks (as long as it's a meaty one), Esquisto will make for the perfect pairing, even better than Princess Anna and Christophe (those of you with little ones will get that reference). 14.4% alc. Only 210 cases produced.
