Rogstad, Sumu Kaw Vineyard, Nebbiolo, El Dorado 2013
Longtime and quite the successful winemaker Steve Rogstad is doing what a lot of our winemaker partners are doing. They've helped to build many a delicious wine brand(s) for others and now they are striking out on their own. Formerly of Cuvaison, Steve recently launched what will be a great lineup of wines for many years to come but his Nebbiolo currently takes center stage. From the Miwok Indian term for Sugar Pine, the Sumu Kaw Vineyard lies at 3000 feet elevation in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada. The cold nights and long season are well suited to this late ripening variety. Nebbiolo is quite rare outside of Piedmont where it makes the legendary wines of Barolo and Barberesco. We found this wine to have a beautiful balance of dark fruits and acid, making it the perfect food wine with several dishes. 14.2% alc. Only 66 cases produced.
