Scar of the Sea, Seven Leagues, Pinot Noir, Santa Maria Valley 2013
There are tons of wines on today's market that emphasize only single elements of winemaking; alcohol, whole cluster fermentation, oak regiment, acid, etc. Scar of the Sea strives to shift the pendulum to focus on what is in the glass. The vineyard sources for Scar of the Sea wines are influenced by the ocean, with maritime soils and climates, producing wines that are truly unique to the Central Coast of California.
Made by winemaker Michael Brughelli, this wine is 100% Pinot Noir sourced from two of the most prominent vineyards in Santa Maria (Bien Nacido and Sierra Madre). Brughelli also holds a prominent position at Bien Nacido Vineyards so he's got the inside scoop on the best blocks of fruit from this esteemed property. We loved this wine for the beautiful yet assertive floral notes followed by distinct and unique red fruit flavors. The textures and balanced acid make this a Pinot Noir that truly stands out amongst a sea of also-rans. Drink now through 2022. 13.7% alc. Only 150 cases produced.
